(The Center Square) – Five school employees in Ohio are turning to the Ohio Supreme Court to stop paying dues after they resigned from the union. The Buckeye Institute filed an appeal with the state’s highest court in the case of five of the original 10 clients. Five clients won their case, which argued that all of the former members of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees had money illegally taken from their paychecks for union dues after they resigned from the union. ...
Registration open for Alzheimer’s walks
The Alzheimer’s Association invites central Ohioans to register for the 2024 Walks to End Alzheimer’s, taking place across the region this fall. With more than 600 walks taking place across the U.S. each year, Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest fundraising event and supports the association’s free educational programs and support groups, Alzheimer’s care services, and advancements in treatment and research. People walk in memory of mothers, fathers, grandparents, and loved ones who are impacted by the disease.
Local senators praise Cleveland-Cliffs plant announcement
WEIRTON, WV — With Monday's announcement by Cleveland-Cliffs that it will invest $150 million in a new electrical distribution transformer production plant, many local lawmakers believe it is a benefit. PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - Parts of the Mid-Ohio Valley picked up a decent amount of rain on Monday. Spots around Parkersburg, Belpre, and Marietta were able to pick up more than half an inch of rain. A few isolated spots in central Washington county were able to get close to an inch in total. However, some areas did not pick up much rain. Southern Wood County is an example of only picking up around a tenth to two tenths of an inch of rain. More rain is still needed to help with the severe drought conditions across the Mid-Ohio Valley.
