BARNEGAT — A luxury apartment developer is proposing to build 74 new units of age-restricted housing in a forested parcel on Erin Way.

The Residence Club, if approved, seeks to construct two buildings of one- and two-bedroom apartments. The project would be spread across 5.3 acres of forested land west of Gunning River Road.

Developer Jerry Cernero and his company JMC Management Group, based in Brick, are scheduled to present the proposal before the Barnegat Board of Adjustment on July 8. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and be held in the Barnegat Municipal Building, 900 West Bay Ave.

The three-story tall Residence Club would include a gym, leasing office and common spaces and have 26 one-bedroom apartments and 48 two-bedroom apartments, according to Board of Adjustment documents.

JMC Management is seeking variances from the board for the project's height, parking lot design and front yard setback.

The related JMC Realty Group operates commercial and residential spaces at the New Visions apartments in Brick, the Cox Crow Crossing apartments in Toms River, and the JMC Corporate Center in Wall.
