Beach Park authorities search for missing swimmer in Lake Michigan

Activists call on Chicago Police Department to reopen investigation into officers with extremist ties
CHICAGO (CBS) — Activists Saturday demanded the Chicago Police Department reopen its investigation into officers with ties to known extremist groups. "We are the people, and we are the ones who employ the police," said Grace Patino with the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression. We pay for their salaries. We pay for their overtime. And we pay for the misconduct cases. We have a right and a responsibility to stand up and say that Oath Keeper cops aren't welcome here." An internal affairs investigation found eight officers with connections to right-wing extremist groups like the Oath Keepers.However, according to Inspector General Deborah Witzburg, investigators only interviewed those officers themselves. They did not take additional steps or document whether their association with the group discredited their department.

Man attacked and carjacked Uber driver, prosecutors say
Chicago police detectives were able to identify the man who attacked and carjacked an Uber driver because he ordered the rideshare on an account linked to his driver’s license, officials said. Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman rejected a state detention petition and sent Juan Salgado, 38, home on an ankle monitor.

CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago Police have found the Dodge Durango connected with the shooting death of a Chicago postal worker. However, it is unclear how much evidence they will be able to recover because that vehicle has been torched. Police found the Durango in the 8900 block of South Holland Avenue. Officers were on scene with the U.S. Postal Police, investigating the case involving 48-year-old Octavia Redmond's death. PHOTOS: Brookfield Zoo welcomes new animal residents
CHICAGO - Brookfield Zoo has announced the addition of several new animals, which includes emus, a sloth bear, and a puggle. In late June, three 3-month-old emus arrived at the Zoo. The one male and two females are adjusting to their outdoor habitat alongside kangaroos at Australia House. Emus, the second-largest birds in the world, are flightless and can sprint up to 30 mph, according to the zoo. The young emus have already gained 25% of their body weight in the past month.
