Bulldogs take first place at Barron County League Tourney
The Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 3rd and 4th grade softball team earned a first-place trophy at the Barron County League 2024 End of Season Tournament in Turtle Lake held on June 28- 29. On Friday night, C-W won defeating Barron 4-1, and Saturday morning the ‘Dogs lost 2-1 to Turtle Lake. The Bulldogs received a No. 3 seed out of 10 teams heading in to gold bracket play. C-W played Barron in the first game of bracket play and won 3-0. The next game, the Bulldogs narrowly edged Cameron 3-2 to put the ‘Dogs in the championship game. C-W won the tournament title by downing Prairie Farm 3-1.

Barron County is enlisting volunteers to preserve 25 Native burial mounds
In an effort to preserve 25 Native American burial mounds, Barron County will partner with a statewide volunteer group later this year. It’s one of the latest efforts to protect thousands of burial mounds and effigy sites across Wisconsin. On the shores of Prairie Lake just north of the city of Chetek, a small patch of woods is surrounded by homes and farm fields. The Barron County Retired Educators will hold their annual summer picnic on Thursday, July 18, with visiting beginning at 4 p.m. and a picnic meal served at 5 p.m. This event will be held at John and Kathy Osterloth’s home, at 1005 Linden Avenue, Rice Lake. Brats, condiments, buns, water, lemonade, and eating ware will be provided. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass and any special refreshments for themselves.
