Tragic Homicide in Syracuse: Suspect Surrenders
(WNY News Now) – Syracuse, NY – A brutal homicide in Syracuse has left the community in shock as details of the investigation unfold. On July 15, 2024, at approximately 7:22 p.m., Syracuse Police Officers responded to 103 Riverdale Dr., Apt. 1, for a status check. Upon arrival, they discovered Kevin Works, born March 6, 1962, suffering from apparent injuries inflicted by a cutting instrument. Despite immediate medical attention from AMR paramedics, Works was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two charged after traffic stop with illegal gun possession
MAMAKATING – Two people have been arrested following a traffic stop on Route 17 west in the Town of Mamakating on weapons possession charges. State Police announced on Wednesday that minutes before 5 a.m. on July 1, they stopped a vehicle occupied by two men and with the aid of a K-9 unit, located an illegally loaded Taurus G3C .9 mm semi-automatic handgun in the glovebox.

More than 120 teams have signed up to play in the Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament in the Crystal City this weekend. Teams will begin playing 3-on-3 games at 8 a.m. Saturday and the tournament will continue through Sunday, said Emmie Agee, Gaffer District Marketing Manager. The games are played to 21 points on a half-court.
Kendal at Ithaca residents complete volunteer dementia training
ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – Kendal at Ithaca now has nearly two dozen volunteers certified to help people with dementia. In late June, 21 residents completed a comprehensive seminar on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia care. The training was given by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP). The NCCDP seeks to “lead a global transformation in care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, cultivating a future where all caregivers are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and empathy to treat individuals living with cognitive change.”

Former mayor to step in as part-time city judge in Cortland

Officials reportedly approved the appointment on Tuesday night of Ron Walsh as part-time city judge. He takes over for temporary fill-in Lawrence Knickerbocker, who briefly served after Judge Elizabeth Burns accepted a nomination in June to serve on the New York State Court of Claims.
