Wagner: KDWP's special hunts can add to outdoor experience
The fall and winter hunting seasons are in the not-so-distant future. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks is currently accepting applications for 402 special hunts available for the upcoming seasons. Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Manager Jason Wagner said the hunts can be a good way to gain access to more restricted hunting areas.
While drought is receding in northeast Kansas, swaths of the state still parched
Earlier this month, Perry Lake rose to its highest levels since 2019, when water levels were more than double their averages, according to the United State Geological Survey. At its recent peak on July 10, the lake, which is northeast of Topeka, held more than 342,000 acre-feet of water, which is only slightly above the average for the reservoir.
Youth Nab Titles at Bob Hines Swine Classic
More than 100 Kansas youth from 32 counties exhibited 250 pigs in the 2024 Dr. Bob Hines Swine Classic this month in Manhattan. Youth had the opportunity to compete in a skillathon contest, photography contest and showmanship, in addition to prospect and market hog classes. Scott Dean, Lisco, Nebraska, judged showmanship as well as the prospect and market shows.

Crash on SB I-35 has traffic backed up, Mountain Dew truck involved
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A crash has backed up traffic on I-35 SB near the River Market on Monday around 4:45 p.m. A Mountain Dew truck was involved in the crash. Scout cams show a liquid spilled out onto the roadway, but it is unclear at this time if it is a soda product.
Prison for deadly Kansas crash while fleeing police
JOHNSON COUNTY —A Kansas City area man is going to prison for a deadly Kansas crash. Last week, Judge Christiina Gyllenborg sentenced 24-year-old Uconn Comemann of Grain Valley to 25-years in prison for a fatal crash while he was fleeing police, according to the Johnson County District Attorney's office.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The cut-off low-pressure system that has lingered throughout the Missouri River Valley through the weekend has now disorganized itself into a broad wave of energy. Doing so it has weakened dramatically but still lingers across the area. With minor mid-level ridging, the wind will remain light through the morning into the afternoon. This may present patchy dense fog for the early morning drive to work so please take caution in through mid-morning. Overall, chances for thunderstorm activity are unlikely however there are small opportunities for scattered showers between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Afternoon temperatures are expected in the lower 80s but will gradually increase through the next few days as a Southerly flow takes over and a ridge of warmer air develops out of the west.
