The French did it. They’re officially going to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics basketball tournament finals after defeating the reigning FIBA World champions Germany 73-69. Led by Guerschon Yabusele, Isaia Cordinier, and San Antonio Spurs’ big man Victor Wembanyama , France will be the first host country in the finals since 1996.

France’s remarkable and thrilling victory will always be remembered as a historic moment in history. Not only did they upset the Germans, but they also did it behind an electrifying crowd that supported them from start to finish. It’s one of the highlights of this year’s Olympics basketball tournament. Here’s how the NBA community reacted to this moment:

Bill Simmons couldn’t help but bring up how France almost lost to Japan during the preliminary stage

Of course, the community won’t forget to mention Rudy Gobert who was removed out of Team France’s starting lineup and has only played five minutes.

There are also some notable journalists who called out this game’s officiating.

Shoutout to France’s actual best player in this one, Guerschon Yabusele, who posted 17 points and seven rebounds on 7-11 shooting.

Of course, Wemby has gotten all the attention, and rightfully so. He may not have been France’s best player, but he was significantly impactful on both ends of the floor. The French big man scored 11 points and added seven rebounds.

More love for Team France because they deserve it.

As for Germany, this is going to sting for a while.

Suffice it to say that this game between France and Germany was a treat for basketball fans all over the world. Congrats to the France men’s basketball team for earning themselves another podium finish on their home court.
