The United States captured Olympic gold on Saturday by holding off host France 98-87 in a thrilling gold medal game in Paris.

As in their semifinal win over Serbia, Team USA leaned on the ridiculous shooting of Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry . The two-time NBA MVP caught fire in the clutch and delivered one big three-pointer after another before pulling out his night-night celebration that quieted the predominantly French crowd.

" At that point your mind goes blank," said Curry to Marc Spears after the game. "You don't really care about the setting or the scenario or anything, it's just a shot. Thankfully, that one went in, it settles down & after that it's just rhythm and flow and confidence."

    Curry puts France to sleep

The 'shot' that Curry was talking about was his fadeaway three-pointer with 35 seconds left in the game. With France's Victor Wembanyama drilling a three-point basket to cut Team USA's lead to 87-93 with 55 seconds left in the game, Curry took matters into his own hands and cooked on the other end of the court.

That three-point basket capped a fascinating shooting display for Chef Curry, who made four consecutive three-pointers after Wemby had cut the Americans' lead to 79-82 on a putback dunk with still 3:04 left in the game. Steph's torrid shooting kept the French at bay and ultimately put them to sleep, giving Curry his first Olympic gold medal.

"There was a lot of relief. It wasn't easy, but damn, I'm excited, man. This is everything that I wanted it to be and more so I'm excited," added Curry.

Steph was unconscious in the semis and gold medal game

Kevin Durant scored 15 points and helped Curry fend off the French rally while Devin Booker also chipped in 15 markers to carry the Americans early in the game. Meanwhile, LeBron James had another brilliant all-around effort with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals, and one block. But the night belonged to Curry.

Steph led Team USA in scoring for the second straight game, logging 24 points on 8-12 three-point shooting. In the game against Serbia, Chef Curry closed out his first and last Olympic campaign by knocking down 17 out of 26 three-point attempts.

It was a great ending to a tournament in which Steph started out slow. He scored just 29 points in Team USA's first four games but ended up scoring 50 points in the last two games. While it wasn't good enough to beat LeBron James for the Olympic MVP award, it was a fairytale ending to Steph's first and only Olympic appearance.
