Gilbert Arenas thinks Tim Hardaway was the only guy snubbed from the Dream Team: "It wasn't Isiah Thomas"

Every time people talk about the Dream Team, the one thing that is always mentioned, apart from its unprecedented dominance, is Isiah Thomas getting snubbed from the squad.

However, according to Gilbert Arenas , Zeke wasn't the one who was unfairly left off the roster.

"When we talk about the '92 team, the only person that got jaded and screwed was Tim Hardaway. It wasn't Isiah Thomas. It was Tim Hardaway," Gil said on The OGs Show.

Tim made the All-NBA Second Team in 1992

Assembling the Dream Team in 1992 meant bringing the 12 best players in the NBA to Barcelona. According to Arenas, that wasn't supposed to be complicated—all USAB had to do was follow the All-NBA team selections.

Hardaway averaged what turned out to be his career-high of 23.4 points that season while also dishing out 10.0 assists per contest. Because of that, he made the All-NBA second team, which, based on Gil's criteria, should've secured him a spot on the roster.

"He was second team, right? The first team, all of them went and four of the five on the second team. But they bring back Magic, so Magic took his spot and then Bird and then Christian Laettner," Arenas added.

    Hardaway was the sacrificial lamb

Tim was the only player from the All-NBA first and second teams not to make the Dream Team. Meanwhile, Magic Johnson, tasked with convincing Michael Jordan and Larry Bird to join the squad, was given a chance to break the stigma around HIV, making Hardaway the sacrificial lamb.

On the other hand, Thomas claimed he should've been on the Dream Team because no one had done what he did for an NBA organization . Zeke was referring to leading the Pistons to back-to-back titles in 1989 and 1990 while reviving a franchise that had little success before that. However, according to Isiah, at least, MJ got in the way.

But even though Thomas was an All-Star in the 1991-92 season—he averaged 18.5 points and 7.2 assists—Hardaway had a better year. So, based on his performance, perhaps he was the biggest squad then the Pistons legend, even though nobody talks about it.
