The Boston Celtics face substantially high expectations as they enter the 2024-25 season to defend their title and impose their will more dominantly after three of their players were part of the Olympic gold medal-winning team in Paris 2024. With plenty of eyeballs solely focused on Joe Mazzulla's team's performance this time around, Kevin Garnett applauds the NBA for catering towards the fans and hyping their energy for the 'ring night' by scheduling them against arch-rivals New York Knicks .

KG is hyped for Celtics vs. Knicks season opener

Since acquiring Mikal Bridges, who has featured in all regular season games over the last two years and averaged 19.8 points per game in the last campaigns, the Knicks have undoubtedly brought in a reliable offensive threat who can even make up for Jalen Brunson's defensive shortcomings on the perimeter. Moreover, with the Villanova quarter already having a solid camaraderie between them, they are anticipated to be the Celtics' biggest challenge in the East.

On the other hand, Boston's marquee duo appears even more motivated to silence their critics after Jaylen Brown was overlooked for Team USA selection and Jayson Tatum received less playing time than anticipated this summer. Furthermore, given Boston's dominance over New York in their previous regular season series, winning 4-1, both teams are poised to assert their authority in the season opener.

This competitive dynamic has been aptly recognized by The Big Ticket, who considers this matchup a 'must-see' TV spectacle.

"The league is listening. They heard us, man…Yeah, that's a good opener… That's gonna be fire," Garnett said on his podcast . "I want the Knicks to jump on that train and come up north with all that they was going down to Philly with. I wanna see how that looks in Boston. This must-watch TV though."

Animosity between Celtics and Knicks is already reaching a high

Garnett isn't the only one hyping up this matchup. Even Knicks superfan Spike Lee recently took a jab at the Celtics franchise, firing up Celtics fans to go all out against every Knicks player when they step into TD Garden for the season opener.

It's safe to say that while the Celtics have been a dominant force against the Knicks, especially last season, only time will tell if Brunson & Co., along with the Knicks' newest addition, can help spoil the defending champions' ring night.
