"Nice priorities loser" - Barstool Sports founder blasts Steve Kerr for deciding to speak at Democratic National Convention

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr made recent headlines after it was surprisingly announced he would make an appearance at the Democratic National Convention to support Kamala Harris' presidential bid. However, the move didn't sit well with David Portnoy.

The Barstool Sports founder used X (formerly Twitter) to question Kerr's decision to take the podium at the Dem Convention and blast the coach for benching Jayson Tatum in the 2024 Olympics.

    Portnoy's criticism of Kerr

This isn't the first time Portnoy disparaged the former Coach of the Year this summer. Earlier this month, he said he was rooting for France against Team USA in the gold-medal game even though he was American because of Kerr's supposed disrespect toward Tatum.

Then, Portnoy took it up a notch by tweeting that the former Chicago Bulls sharpshooter would be a janitor at Barstool if it weren't for Michael Jordan and Stephen Curry. It's worth noting that the controversial businessman is known for his support for Donald Trump. So, perhaps being on the opposing political sides may have something to do with his disdain for Kerr.

Of course, the fact that Portnoy is a Massachusetts native and a staunch Boston Celtics fan could have also factored into his unflattering opinion of the Team USA coach.

    Kerr's political fight

It remains to be seen if the 58-year-old will respond to Portnoy's social media post. Still, chances are he has no interest in doing so after spending several months preparing the U.S. men's national basketball squad for the Paris Games. Now, his sights are likely set on helping the Warriors get back on track in the 2024-25 regular season.

However, it appears the former NBA Three-Point Contest champion also made sure to pour his support for the Democratic Party in what many people believe will be a crucial presidential election.

In a time when some people chastise NBA figures for not choosing to "shut up and dribble," Kerr's decision to step out of the sports arena and dabble in politics might be perceived as a risky move. His speech even went viral after he used Curry's popular "night, night" celebration to send a message to Trump's presidential bid.

As such, more eyes will probably be on Kerr once the regular season starts, with some of those watching, including Portnoy, likely hoping for the Warriors' failure. However, regardless of how the squad's campaign turns out, there's no denying that the nine-time NBA champion (five as a player and four as a coach) is already successful in his field.
