The Boston Celtics ’ ownership put the team for sale after winning the 18th NBA Championship in franchise history. Led by the duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the C's were easily the best team during the 2023-24 season.

Considering the core of the team is still in the prime of their respective careers, Wycliffe K. Grousbeck's decision to put the organization for sale left many puzzled. Either way, the decision is now made and attracting the attention of potential buyers.

It was previously reported that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was interested in purchasing the franchise . The multi-billionaire certainly has the funds to make a bid for the 18-time NBA champions.

Bezos is not making a bid for the Celtics

On the same note, Bill Simmons claimed that the league is expecting upward of $6 billion for the Celtics. Considering the NBA’s plan for expansion and Boston being one of the biggest franchises in the league, the price tag makes sense.

While the former Amazon CEO has the funds to make the purchase, Nick Wingfield of The Information reports that Bezos has no plans to bid for the organization.

“Jeff Bezos has no plans to bid on the Boston Celtics, according to a person close to Bezos,” Wingfield wrote. “Since Monday, sports media has been abuzz about the possibility that the billionaire founder of Amazon was considering making an offer for the team, after podcaster Bill Simmons gave credence to the rumors in an episode of his show. But according to the person close to Bezos, there’s ‘zero truth’ to the idea that Bezos is interested in bidding on the team.”

Well, this is an awkward U-turn in Amazon’s potential interest to buy the storied franchise. The $197.3 billion mogul was previously interested in purchasing NFL’s Washington Commanders. However, he backed out of that deal as well.

The Celtics are locking in for the new season

Although the Celtics are currently up for grabs, it doesn’t mean they are not preparing for the upcoming season. The C’s will have a shot at becoming the first team since the Golden State Warriors to win back-to-back NBA titles.

The Dubs did so when they lifted the Larry O’Brien trophy in 2017 and 2018. As for the Celtics, they have a stellar roster of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holid, and Derrick White.

With Joe Mazzulla at the helm, the defending champions are strong contenders to repeat next season. Will any team be able to match Boston’s talent? Only time will tell.
