LeBron James had openly mentioned his dream of playing in the NBA with his eldest son, Bronny James . The dream will finally be fulfilled during the 2024-25 season as the Los Angeles Lakers drafted the former USC Trojans guard with the 55th overall pick.

While many believe Bronny has been allowed to play in the league due to his last name, he still had a rocky journey. The biggest hurdle for the 19-year-old was recovering from a cardiac arrest he suffered before his freshman season with the Trojans.

Fast-forward to 2024. Bronny is seemingly healthy and ready to compete in the NBA. Evidently, his parents, LeBron and Savannah James couldn't be more excited to see their son play for the Lakers.

Savannah James' emotional moment about Bronny

Being a mother, one can only imagine how scary it was for Savannah to almost lose her son to cardiac arrest at such a young age. On top of that, being LeBron's son has made Bronny a victim of constant hatred from basketball fans.

Savannah opened up about getting emotional while holding back tears when she thought of her eldest son's journey to the NBA. The 37-year-old shared the story in a recent episode of Everybody's Crazy podcast on YouTube.

"I had a moment yesterday, which wasn't crazy, it was just an emotional moment," Savannah said. "I watched my boy do something that is – I'm just so proud. I'm so proud. I would say that's the craziest thing 'cause I didn't see it coming. It just hit me."

It's great to see Bronny receiving the full support of his parents. But the grass always seems greener from the outside. The 19-year-old still has a lot of room to improve.

Can Bronny succeed in the NBA?

Despite being the eldest son of arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, Bronny is not even close to his dad's talents. During his freshman year at college, James Jr. averaged just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

While he played in 25 games at USC, he started just six. Moreover, he averaged 19.3 minutes per game for the team. Considering that Bronny's decision to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft was met with a lot of criticism.

Ultimately, the Lakers took a gamble on Bron's son with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. As of now, Bronny's peak, at best, is to become a solid role player on the Purple and Gold. Anything more than that will be a pleasant surprise and a great clapback to all the haters who think Bronny only got to the NBA because of his father.

Didn’t see it coming. He was a projected NBA star in about 8th grade.
