Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic were announced as starters for Team Luka during Saturday's 'Night of the Dragon' event in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

While that's just an exhibition game, having the two best European players in the NBA play together has excited many people. Some were perhaps even too excited that they have started talking about the prospect of the two playing together in the NBA in the future.

Doncic's former teammate and Maverick's great Dirk Nowitzki was asked about that possibility, and he gave a biased but honest answer.

" I hope that would be in Dallas. I'm not sure if that will ever happen, but obviously, both are two of the best players in the world. If not the best players in the world," said Dirk.

Luka coming off his first Finals appearance

The 29-year-old Jokic failed to keep the Larry O'Brien trophy in Denver last season. However, the Serbian unicorn remained the gold standard in the league by winning his third NBA MVP Award. The Joker has won that award thrice in the last four years.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Doncic is coming off his most successful NBA season yet. Luka led the Mavs to the 2024 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Boston Celtics in five games. While it looks like Doncic has found the right partner in Kyrie Irving, teaming up with Jokic is a whole different story.

" They both have a great relationship with each other," added Nowitzki. " They respect each other and like each other genuinely. They spend time with each other. I'm not sure, but of course, we want Luka in Dallas as long as we can. Hopefully, he finishes his career there, but I love Jokic's game, how he plays the game with passion, and the skill level as a big is unbelievable. They're both incredible players."

Dallas added Klay Thompson during the offseason

When the 2024-25 NBA season starts, Jokic will return to the Nuggets, hoping that Jamal Murray will finally be healthy after a rough 2024 campaign in which Denver admittedly ran out of gas in the playoffs . Meanwhile, the Mavericks gave Luka another weapon to help him finally win his first championship.

Dallas signed Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Klay Thompson in free agency. Although Thompson is no longer the All-Star player he once was, the four-time NBA champion is still one of the best outside shooters in the NBA and will surely help Luka and Kyrie get their games going. But then again, that's not a guarantee of an NBA championship.

This summer has been full of talks about fantasy team-ups. On top of the list is the possibility that LeBron and Steph will join forces before retiring. There have also been murmurs about a probable partnership between KD and Ant-Man after their Olympics bonding. So why not have Luka and Joker in Dallas, too?
