"I would've been an All-Star for sure" - Brandon Jennings on what if he didn't tear his Achilles in 2015

Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings was slowly developing into one of the NBA's elite guards when he suffered an Achilles injury. The injury slowed down Jennings' progress and eventually shortened his NBA career.

Looking back, the former Oak Hill Academy star believes that he could have become a better player and developed into an All-Star had he not gotten hurt in 2015.

"I would’ve been an All-Star for sure if I didn’t tear my Achilles," said Jennings. "And I believe we would have made the playoffs that year in Detroit, and then I’d end up getting paid."

The Pistons were on a roll when Jennings got hurt

The injury that Jennings was talking about was the one that happened on January 24, 2015, against his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks. In that game, Jennings tore his left Achilles and was declared out for the rest of the season.

Detroit was on a roll before Brandon got hurt, having won 12 of their previous 15 matchups . The shifty point guard was also averaging 20.9 PPG and 7.9 APG that month. His claim that the Pistons would have made the playoffs seems unlikely, as they were ten games under .500 at 17-27 when he got hurt.

"Then again, who knows what happens after that?" added Jennings. "I feel like with the injury, that’s when the chaos started happening outside of my career. I felt like with the money, it would’ve probably been more chaos."

The Pistons traded Jennings instead of giving him the bag

BJ returned to action in December 2015 but struggled to regain his form. With his contract due at the end of the 2015-16 season and no guarantee that Brandon would return to his old self, the Pistons traded him to the Orlando Magic.

When his contract became due, he decided to sign with the New York Knicks on a one-year $5 million deal. He did not finish the season in The Big Apple, as he was waived. That turned out to be the beginning of the end for Jennings.

At just 25 when he tore his Achilles, Jennings still had a promising career ahead and could have secured a bag in Detroit. But on the bright side of things, he "forcefully" retired with over $40 million in career earnings, which isn't too shabby.
