“The round is almost over and you want me to buy shorts now?” - Michael Jordan had a trademark reaction after being banned from an exclusive Miami Beach golf course

One key takeaway from ‘The Last Dance' documentary was how Michael Jordan remained uncompromising in doing things his way. While this approach brought him immense success on the basketball hardwood, it led to a rather surprising incident on the golf course - where the five-time MVP found himself getting banned from an exclusive Miami Beach golf course. However, while staying true to his trademark style, Mike didn’t shy away from revealing his feelings about that disrespect.

Wrong shorts led to Mike being banned

After retiring from the NBA for the third and final time in 2003, it became a well-known fact that the 14-time All-Star turned to golf to satisfy his competitive nature. However, in November 2012, while playing at La Gorce Golf Club - a place that he frequently visited - Mike encountered an issue with the club’s dress code.

According to the rules, all golfers were required to wear a collared shirt and Bermuda shorts, but Jordan opted to wear cargo shorts instead. Interestingly, his choice led to complaints from some of the club’s members.

By the time the six-time NBA Champion reached the 11th hole, a staff member approached him and requested that he return to the clubhouse to change into a more appropriate attire. Refusing to entertain the request, Mike continued to play, finished the round, and left the course.

"I've been there many times, and no one told me a thing," Jordan said . "Then all of a sudden, they come to me on the 11th hole and say I can’t wear cargo shorts. Wow! The round is almost over and you want me to buy shorts now? Yeah, right!"

Moreover, while reflecting on his thoughts about the ban, Mike, in his trademark manner, showed the remorse he held.

"No problem," Jordan's reaction to the ban.

Michael Jordan has his own exclusive golf course in Miami

Given how the six-time Finals MVP had the tendency to take even the smallest slights personally, it’s no wonder getting banned left a mark on him. Some would even think that his decision to create The Grove XXIII - his ultra-exclusive private golf club in Hobe Sound, Florida - might have come from feeling disrespected by La Gorce. This further explains why his luxurious club is super private, and very few people have even seen it, let alone played there.

In the end, though, banning someone like Jordan was probably more of a loss for La Gorce Golf Club than it was for MJ. With his immense popularity and fanfare, not having the arguable NBA GOAT on your premises could only be reckoned as a stain on one’s reputation.
