"He should've asked somebody about Kareem, Dr. J" - Magic Johnson continues to criticize Anthony Edwards for bashing old eras

After being called out by several old-school legends for his comments about Michael Jordan being the only skilled player of his era, Anthony Edwards might have learned his lesson about not jumping to conclusions regarding past generations of the NBA. However, Magic Johnson remains vocal in criticizing and educating the young Minnesota Timberwolves star.

    Johnson continues to school Edwards

During his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the five-time NBA champion was asked about Ant-Man's comments, which sent shockwaves throughout the association. Magic started by sarcastically thanking the 23-year-old for educating him and other old-school NBA fans about their own time. Then, he advised the two-time All-Star to talk to his elders and find out how tough and skilled the majority of players in the '80s and '90s were.

"I think he should've asked somebody, his father or grandfather, about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dr. J, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins, " Johnson said . "We had some of the most dominant players who have ever played."

Just when fans in the studio thought the three-time MVP might ease up, he delivered another blow, reminding Edwards he isn't in a position to criticize anyone, let alone some of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen.

"You might wanna talk trash when you won something… You haven't won anything, " Johnson added. "If this came from some of the guys on the Celtic team, okay, you might wanna look at it, but you haven't won anything."

    Winning should come first

The legendary point guard finished by suggesting Edwards should focus on the present, especially with the Dallas Mavericks—they signed Klay Thompson in the offseason—among other Western Conference squads, getting better for the upcoming season.

"You got beat by the Mavericks. You didn't make it to the championship, so I'm concentrating on that instead of a time you weren't born, " the 12-time All-Star concluded.

Ant has become a fan favorite after his 2024 playoff run with the T-Wolves—he led them to the Western Conference Finals, averaging 27.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists over 16 postseason games. However, the 23-year-old's talent and charisma were overshadowed by his comments about previous generations, especially in the eyes of NBA legends.

The 2024-25 campaign is Edwards' chance to fix the damage or at least earn the right to criticize his predecessors.
