Dennis Rodman 's tenure with the Dallas Mavericks lasted merely 29 days, and although he stepped on the court for 12 games, his stay was marked by turbulency. On the court, Rodman garnered six technical fouls and two ejections. Off the court, Dennis openly expressed his belief that the organization had used him to attract attention, and when he was of no use, they released him.

However, during these turbulent times, the five-time NBA champion imparted a significant life lesson to owner Mark Cuban .

Cuban on the lesson he learned from Rodman

In the mere 12 games he played, 'The Worm' showcased his rebounding prowess, averaging 14.3, a tally close to when he led the league in rebounding. However, given that the team couldn't use Dennis' strengths, they decided to allocate his minutes to the younger players.

On the one hand, while Rodman clearly admitted to his distaste for the Mav organization, he maintained an amicable relationship with Cuban even after his release, emphasizing that their connection was rooted in their deep friendship and not money matters. Interestingly, at the time, Dennis The Menace had grown so frustrated that he instructed the team to change their owner and franchise cornerstone.

Nevertheless, Cuban understood how upsetting the situation was for the two-time All-Star and learned a valuable lesson from Rodman that helped him maintain his image in the years to come.

"I like Dennis, " Mark said in 2019. "I learned a lot about dealing with the media and PR from him. Everywhere he went, there was media, and he was always positive and connected with them. (It was) a trait that served me well."

    Rodman knew Cuban appreciated him

Mark's hospitality towards Dennis was noteworthy, extending to offering accommodation in his guest house and facilitating discreet visits from Carmen Electra . Furthermore, the 6'7" forward was also well aware of the owner's appreciation for his playing style and self-marketing acumen, underscoring the cordial nature of their relationship.

However, Dallas had lost 9 of the 12 games Rodman played in due to the team's lack of chemistry, so it took time for Dennis to realize that the organization had no personal agenda against him. More importantly, kudos to the billionaire owner for not letting 'The Worm's' comments trigger his ego and only focusing on the positives.
