Michael Jordan felt Robin Givens could have married him instead of Mike Tyson: "It got tired in five, six days"

Before Michael Jordan married Juanita Vanoy, the young Chicago Bull almost married a famous actress Robin Given. During a March 1989 interview with David Breskin for GQ, Jordan talked about having a fling with a famous actress after the actress broke up with Hollywood actor Eddie Murphy and before she married boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson .

As Breskin wrote in the article, Jordan could have easily been the Mike that Givens married.

"On her way from Eddie Murphy to Mike Tyson, Ms. Givens stopped off at Michael's address for a spell. It got tired in five, six days," said MJ.

Tyson almost beat up MJ

While there was no confirmation of a MJ-Givens romance from the actress, Tyson's longtime friend and manager Rory Holloway narrated an incident where Iron Mike was supposed to have dinner with MJ. According to Holloway's book Taming the Beast: The Untold Story of Mike Tyson, via the New York Post, the dinner took place after Tyson's divorce from Givens was finalized.

"Mike Tyson's sitting there with his drink of choice, a Long Island Tea, and when he drinks his real feelings come out," Holloway wrote . "I'm telling the server to water his drinks down 'cause I see where this is going. Mike stares across the table at Michael Jordan. He says, 'Hey man, you think I'm stupid? I know you f—-d with my b—h.' "Jordan looks like he just seen a ghost. 'I know you messed with her,' Mike says. 'You can tell me.'"

The New York Post report clarified that Jordan dated Givens before she met Tyson, so it wasn't that Iron Mike was accusing MJ of anything. It was just that he was still upset about the divorce, which the split was finalized on Valentine's Day of 1989.

Jordan said he didn't trust women

Holloway said he and Chicago Bears star Richard Dent tried to hold Tyson down while Boxing promoter Don King kept on changing the discussion topic so that the famed boxer would cool down. Fortunately, he did, and nothing untoward happened that 1986 night. It, however, proved that MJ wasn't bluffing when he said he could've been in Iron Mike's shoes.

Six months after talking to Breskin, however, Jordan tied the knot with Vanoy in the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas. Michael said that the experience of being a husband and a father provided a balance and focus away from basketball . Their marriage lasted 17 years before they got divorced as week.
