Mississippi’s Master Gardener Felder Rushing was in Jefferson Davis County over the weekend.

Rushing was at the Beaver Creek Distillery Saturday during its Botanical Bonanza event.

Rushing’s Gestalt Gardener is a popular Mississippi radio program on Mississippi Public Broadcasting. He has written syndicated newspaper columns for 40 years and is the author of over 20 books. The radio and television personality was named by Southern Living as one of the “25 people most likely to change the South.”

Felder discussed botanicals like the ones used in the making of distilled spirits at Beaver Creek. The Distillery uses a variety of native botanicals in the making of its handcrafted spirits, including gin, moonshine and bourbon.

Plants were available for purchase and the first 25 customers received a free plant.

Visitors to the distillery also enjoyed handcrafted cocktails, small-batch spirits, food, handcrafted treats and live music during the event.

“This month we have been all about the gardening, the flowers and botanicals,” said Beaver Creek owner Rhonda Phillips. “I’m just super excited that Felder was willing to come down,” she said.

Beaver Creek Distillery is at 96 George W. King Road in Bassfield and is available for private tastings and events. For more information, visit beavercreek-distillery.com or call 769-239-0410.
