The Granger Road bridge over Yellow Creek in Bath Township is closing for six months beginning Monday to be removed and built anew, the Summit County Engineer's Office said in a news release.

The bridge is east of Timberline Drive and west of North Cleveland-Massillon Road. The $1.8 million dollar project will replace the existing structure with an 87-foot-long, 32-foot-wide concrete structure.

A July 2022 U.S. Department of Transportation inspection rated the bridge's condition as "poor" and structurally deficient, marking it as a high priority for replacement with an estimated 3,703 vehicles crossing daily.

The new span, funded with Local Bridge Program grant money, will include wider shoulders for pedestrian and bicycle safety.

The detour will be posted using the following roads: Cleveland-Massillon Road, Bath Road, North Hametown Road and Granger Road. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained during construction, the county office said.

The bridge was built in 1913 and rehabilitated in 1972, according to county records.
