    2024 Chinese New Year: Celebrations, events in Baton Rouge

    BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Chinese New Year falls on Saturday, Feb. 10 and there are several events in Baton Rouge where you can celebrate the festivities.

    The Lunar New Year “begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and ends on the first full moon of the lunar calendar,” according to Britannica . The holiday is celebrated throughout the world including in countries like South Korea, Vietnam and China.

    Baton Rouge will be offering a few festivities ranging from a vibrant music celebration, marketplace event where you can shop for different trinkets celebrating the holiday and several lion dances.

    Harmony in Red and Gold: A Melodic Celebration of the Chinese New Year with Lin He

    Eventgoers will be able to enjoy an evening of vibrant music from violinist Lin He. According to the event’s website , the music will “capture the spirit and traditions of the Chinese New Year celebration.”

    • When: Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
    • Where: 660 N Fourth St.

    Night Market BTR 2024

    There will be several featured food vendors including Em’s Bakery, Mlem Mlem, Okki Tokki, Deaux Bros & Miso Smokey, and Chai Thai Lao. There will also be live entertainment and a shopping experience. The marketplace will be offering local crafts, handmade goods, and artistic creations.

    • When: Friday, Feb. 9 from 6-9 p.m.
    • Where: 250 North Blvd.

    Lunar New Year Lion Dance 2024

    The Lunar New Year Lion Dance 2024 will include festive drumming and firecrackers. For those looking to make donations in the traditional red envelopes, eventgoers are encouraged to bring small cash, according to the event’s website .

    • When: Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10-11 a.m.
    • Where: 8342 Perkins Road.

    Celebrate Chinese New Year – Dragon

    According to the Painting With a Twist’s website , doors for the class will be open 20 minutes before it starts. A 16×20 canvas is $49, a framed 16×20 canvas is $55, an 18×18 wood shiplap pallet is $57, and a 16×20 wood plank board is $59. The event is for anyone 18 years or older.

    • When: Saturday, Feb. 10 from 7-10 p.m.
    • Where: 711 Jefferson Hwy. Suite 3A.

    Lion Dance 2024

    The Lion Dance 2024 will be taking place at the Vinh Phat Market in Baton Rouge. The event will have festive drumming and firecrackers.

    • When: Sunday, Feb. 11 at 9:30 a.m.
    • Where: 12351 Florida Blvd.
