BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Celebrate the extra day of the year on Thursday, Feb. 29 by going to one of these events that will be held in the Baton Rouge area on Leap Day 2024.
According to Britannica , “a leap day occurs in a leap year, which is a year with an inserted period of time.” The leap day is usually added to the end of the shortest month, February.
The leap day happens nearly every four years and the added 24 hours are put into the calendar to “ensure that it stays in line with the Earth’s movement around the sun,” according to History.com .

Listen to live music, bring the family to Henry Turner Jr.’s Listening Room Heritage Museum Leap for Vets
At this year’s Leap For Vets event there will be music by David St. Romain, food, live and silent auction items. According to the event’s website , all proceeds from the silent auction will be going towards the Acadiana Veteran Alliance.

Jumping Origami Frogs for Leap Day
Jumping Origami Frogs for Leap Day will be taking place at the River Center Brand Library in Baton Rouge on Feb. 29. The arts and crafts event will give people an opportunity to put their own creation on jumping origami frogs.
- When: Thursday, Feb. 29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Where: 250 North Blvd.
Leap of Faith Workshop
The Leap of Faith Workshop will be taking place at BR Succulent Co. on Thursday, Feb. 29. According to their website , the surprise workshop classes will run around one or one-and-a-half hours.

- Where: 7276 Highland Road.
Leap Year 2.29 Mile
The Leap Year 2.29 mile is a virtual running event that celebrates the return of the leap year. Runners can sign up and get an official race medal for completing this event.
- When: Complete your race on Thursday, Feb. 29, or anytime in February or March 2024.
- Where: Virtual run event.
