BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Want to see some of your favorite animals and explore what the outdoors has to offer? The Baton Rouge area offers several wildlife enclosure experiences and zoos for all ages.
There is a number of wildlife amenities that are featured in the capital city including an aquarium, zoo, live mascot habitat, wildlife refuge, nature center, and adventure tours that take you through the bayous of south Louisiana.
You can see all sorts of animals including stingrays, turtles, tigers, flamingos, deer, birds, alligators and reptiles.
Check out these zoos and wildlife encounters that are offered in Baton Rouge the next time you want to step outside and enjoy the great outdoors.
Ready for an adventure? Check out these swamp tours in, near Baton Rouge Admission to the Baton Rouge Zoo is $8.75 for adults and teens, $7.75 for seniors, $5.75 for children between the ages of 2 and 12, and free for children 1 and younger. Some of the featured animals at the Baton Rouge Zoo include the siamang, Malayan tiger, Galapagos tortoise, Chilean flamingo and Indian rhinoceros.

The Waddill Wildlife Refuge offers several amenities, including boating, hiking, bird watching, berry picking, fishing, hunting and shooting. According to its website , the refuge also has a swamp habitat and a sand bar on the Comite River.
- Hours: Open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
- Location: 4142 N. Flannery Blvd.
The Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center has a variety of live animal exhibits, along with presentations of the center’s artifacts and mineral displays. According to the center’s website, the 103-acre facility is dedicated to conservation, education, recreation and tourism.
- Hours: Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday; 12-5 p.m. Sunday.
- Location: 10503 N. Oak Hills Parkway.
Mike the Tiger’s Habitat is located near LSU’s Tiger Stadium and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Mike’s habitat features “lush planting, a live oak tree, a waterfall, and a stream evolving from a rocky backdrop overflowing with plants and trees,” according to the habitat’s website .
- Location: 16 N. Stadium Drive.
Looking for something to do in, near Baton Rouge? All About Baton Rouge Tours/Red Stick Adventure Tours offers 1.5-hour guided boat tours through a private wildlife sanctuary. Their website states, that you will “enjoy humorous captains tell their stories of the area and maybe learn a few things along the way!” during your tour.

The Blue Zoo Aquarium in the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge offers several amenities, including a stingray encounter, a dive experience, a reptile show, animal feeding, pirates and mermaids and a stingray and dive show.
- Hours: Open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 12-6 p.m. Sunday.
