    BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Looking for an attraction for your friends and family to enjoy in Baton Rouge? The capital city has several museums across the area for you to learn and explore.

    Museums across the Baton Rouge area showcase either the history of Louisiana or the landscaping the Pelican State has to offer. Some of the top museums in the capital city offer free admission or self-guided walking tours, allowing you to create your own adventure.

    1. USS Kidd Veterans Museum

    Want to take a tour of downtown Baton Rouge’s Fletcher-Class Destroyer USS Kid and the Louisiana Veterans Museum? Admission into the USS Kidd Veterans Museum is $14.63 for adults, $12.54 for veterans, $12.54 for seniors and children ages 5-12 is $10.45.

    The USS Kidd is currently located at a Houma shipyard for needed repairs and restoration. According to the museum, the ship closed on Wednesday, April 24 to prepare the USS Kidd for its trip. The ship is expected to return to Baton Rouge in the spring of 2025.

    • Hours: Open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    2. Louisiana’s Old State Capitol

    Louisiana’s Old State Capitol offers guided tours for groups from Tuesday to Friday. According to their website , free audio tours are available in four different languages. Admission is free.

    • Hours: Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

    3. LSU Rural Life Museum

    According to their website , the LSU Rural Life Museum is “dedicated to the preservation and exhibitions of materials from the culture of 18th and 19th century rural Louisianas.” Tours are self-guided.

    • Hours: Open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Location: 4560 Essen Lane.

    4. Capitol Park Museum

    The Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge lets viewers explore and learn about Louisiana’s culture, history and natural wonders. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for active military, seniors and students and free for children ages 6 and younger.

    • Hours: Open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
    • Location : 660 North 4th St.

    5. Louisiana Art & Science Museum

    The Louisiana Art & Science Museum provides educational entertainment for all ages. There are a variety of art and science exhibits for guests to explore. Visit here to purchase tickets.

    • Hours: Open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday-Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

    6. Knock Knock Children’s Museum

    The Knock Knock Children’s Museum features a selection of activities for kids to spend their day at. According to the museum’s website , some of the activities include the Go Go Garage, I See Food Cafe and Claws Clinic.

    • Hours: Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

    7. Burden Museum & Gardens

    The Burden Museum & Gardens is on 440 acres of land, according to their website . Guests can explore the flora and fauna of Louisiana’s landscapes and agricultural heritage.

    • Hours: Open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Location: 4560 Essen Lane.

    8. Old Arsenal Museum

    The Old Arsenal Museum in Baton Rouge offers several exhibits, including the Battle of Baton Rouge, military history and the history of the Capitol grounds. There are also self-guided walking tours.

    • Hours: Open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.
    • Location: 900 Capitol Lake Drive.

    9. LSU Museum of Art

    According to the website, the LSU Museum of Art “seeks to enrich and inspire through collections, exhibitions, conservation, and education.” Some of the current exhibitions include Coming Home: Geoffrey Beene-Southern Reflections, Fierce Planets: Work from the Studio Art Quilt Associates and Interior Space: Photographs by Roland Miller & Paolo Nespoli.

    10. Louisiana State Archives

    The Louisiana State Archives features a selection of archive materials. General histories, census indexes, church records and family histories are stored in the capital city.
