    Cajun meat market in Baton Rouge to open new store, offer po-boys and salads

    BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Chris’s Specialty Foods, a Cajun specialty meat market, will hold its grand opening on Saturday.

    The new meat market will open at noon on Saturday, June 29, at 18135 E. Petroleum Drive, Suite J, in the Highland Market shopping center, where the former Maxwell’s Market was located.

    Maxwell’s Market announced its closure in January 2024.

    Chris’s Specialty Foods offers deboned chickens, stuffed pork tenderloins, soups, gumbos, etouffees, sausages, boudin and steaks.

    Tressy Leindecker, the owner of Chris’s, said the building will be split as one part will be a grocery store and the other will be a restaurant.

    At the grand opening, Chris’s will offer store gift cards, discounts, special gifts and additional drawings, according to a social media post .

    Hooters closes several underperforming locations

    Customers will also be able to dine in for lunch at the Cajun Deli. Shrimp and catfish po-boys, blackened chicken Caesar salad and sauteed shrimp Caesar salads will be available daily.

    The hours for new Chris’s Highland location are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
