When the LSU Fighting Tigers baseball team made it's run to a national title in the 2023 College World Series, Tigers fans set a record for the most Jell-O shots consumed during the series at an Omaha pizzeria: 68,888. The annual contest at Rocco's Pizza and Cantina also serves as a fundraiser for food banks.

This year, LSU was eliminated in the regionals, but it didn't stop LSU fans from helping Rocco's raise more money.

Mike Manning with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank said LSU fans gave them a huge boost.

“We’re probably going to put it right to food because that’s a big challenge for us right now. Our inventory is down and the purchase price for us to acquire food is up just like it is for everyone else,” said Manning.

Manning said it is greatly needed because they are seeing people who typically didn’t need assistance.

“Because they can’t make it work, they can’t afford the groceries,” he said. “All those things have a really significant impact on the community, especially on the working poor.”
