BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A Baton Rouge man has opened a new craft cocktail bar and plans to launch a luxury nightclub later this summer.

David Facey, managing partner of the two businesses, said Second Story is at 214 Third St., Baton Rouge, while Violet will be located next to Somewhere Neighborhood Bar.

According to Facey, he chose these locations because he has lived in downtown Baton Rouge for eight years, and his father worked on Third Street for 20 years.

Second Story’s official soft opening was Thursday, July 4, according to an Instagram post from Facey.

He explained that Tommy Talley, the other managing partner who also runs Echo Tango, came up with the name Second Story. It’s a play on the craft cocktail bar having a balcony. They plan to reach people in the second story of their days and want to get professional workers and travelers. The goal is to serve clients earlier in the day with less focus on the 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. crowd. The space includes a podcast studio and co-working space.

According to Facey, construction for Violet is ongoing. It’s expected to open in August.

Facey said Violet highlights Baton Rouge’s French heritage. The space will be cleaned, organized and decorated with sophisticated taste. He wants it to have a club experience and to be the entertainment epicenter of Baton Rouge. He also plans to have a world-class light show and attract nationally known EDM DJs.

According to Facey, neither venue will have food, but they are working with mixologists to create a menu and a cocktail program for Second Story.

Facey said that before he opens Second Story to private events, he wants to have a night for groups, including the Baton Rouge Police Department, service industry bartenders, bank tellers and grocery store workers.

Second Story will be open from 2 p.m. to midnight, seven days a week, while Violet will be open from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday to Saturday.
