BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Gov. Jeff Landry signed an emergency declaration on Tuesday, July 9 after Tropical Storm Beryl impacted Louisiana on Monday.

“This State of Emergency will allow parishes affected by Beryl to utilize state resources as we begin the recovery process,” said Landry. “We continue to remain in contact with our first responders and local officials will assist them in every step of the way.”

The remnants of Beryl spawned a dozen tornadoes on Monday in Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas. At least one Louisiana woman died when a tree fell on her home.

The storm also caused “major damage to homes and businesses, as well as massive power outages,” according to a news release.

The order is in effect until Wednesday, Aug. 7 unless changed by Landry “or terminated by operation of law,” according to the state of emergency.
