Want your name on the ballot in November; here’s how you qualify

BATON ROUGE, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) — With qualifying for the November Presidential Primary/Open Congressional Primary Election approaching, here’s what candidates need to know.

A new release from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office outlines what potential candidates need to know.

Qualifying is from Wednesday, July 17 through Friday, July 19.

All candidates seeking state and federal offices will qualify at the Louisiana State Archives at 3851 Essen Lane in Baton Rouge from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. – those offices include:

• United States Representative, Districts 1 – 6
• Associate Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court, District 2
• Judges, Court of Appeals – nine offices
• Public Service Commission, District 2.

Candidates seeking local and municipal offices must qualify with the clerk of court in the parish where they are registered to vote. Candidates should check with their local court clerk for specific parish hours of operation.

According to Act 312 of the 2020 Regular Session and Act 35 of the 2022 Regular Session, qualifying candidates will be required to provide an email address and present a valid Louisiana driver’s license or Louisiana identification card. The email address provided will be listed on the secretary of state’s website.
