But where does that leave LSU recruiting right now? And will it be enough to get the Tigers back to the peak of college football?
Nothing but blue chip recruits for LSU
DJ Pickett, 5 Star Defensive Back
Many pegged DJ Pickett--one of the nation's premier five star defensive back recruits--as an Oregon Duck heading into this past week. He had visited with them three times since February, wrapped up his official visits in Eugene, and experts I spoke to had all put in their predictions to the Ducks. That didn't matter. LSU swooped in and stole away one of the best players in the country on Wednesday of this past week.
Pickett racked up over 1000 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns last season after tallying four interceptions and double digit passes defended on the other side of the ball in the year prior. His two-way skill set, elite speed (clocked over 21 miles per hour on-field), and incredible instincts will make him an instant impact player for LSU in 2025.
Meadows is a long, lanky, 6'5", 200-pound star wide receiver with movement skills similar to Brian Thomas Jr., the 2024 first round NFL Draft pick from LSU this spring. He has a real shot to earn a starting role right out of the gate in 2025.
Jhase Thomas, 3 Star Defensive Back
One of the most underrated acquisitions made by LSU this entire off-season on the recruiting trail. Jhase Thomas mainly played wide receiver prior to this past year, but after making the switch showed to be an elite difference maker on defense. His ball skills and ability to read passes in the air make him a dangerous weapon who could always be about to make an interception.
His dad, Fred Thomas, played a dozen years in the NFL as a defensive back for both the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints. It's clear based on his tape from last year that he's been taking some pointers from old dad. He'll likely slot into a starting safety spot early for LSU.
LSU locking in top 5 recruiting class
It's still rather early in the process, but 16 of 18 recruits for LSU thus far are four and five stars commits. That kind of blue chip ratio is right on par with national championship level recruiting. If Brian Kelly and the Tigers add just a few more four star talents they will undoubtedly finish with a top five overall 2025 recruiting class.
Will that by itself be enough to get LSU back in the mix to win a national championship right away? Not likely, but if they continue stacking classes like this one, fill out their depth in the trenches, and find some magic at quarterback again they very well might win another championship soon.
