One of the most impressive physical specimens at the wide receiver position in all of high school football has finally committed. Derek Meadows, a five star wide receiver from Las Vegas, Nevada had been one of the most highly coveted recruits in the entire nation for months, but chose to commit to Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers over the weekend.

We had been following his recruitment closely as things shifted from trending towards Georgia, to Notre Dame, to Alabama, and ultimately to LSU as the week neared its close according to sources close to Meadows . It was a bit of a jarring surprise that Meadows chose LSU over Notre Dame, who has now lost out on three wide receiver recruits in a row . And many had thought after some key Alabama communication seemingly triggered Meadows' move of his commitment date that it would be the Crimson Tide.

But what is LSU really getting in Derek Meadows? Can he be their next great game-changing wide receiver in a long line of many?

Derek Meadows looks like the next Brian Thomas Jr.

Standing at 6'5", 200 pounds as a junior in high school, Derek Meadows already looks like a dominant college football wide receiver. And just like one of LSU's most recent size-speed freak wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr., Meadows also moves far to smoothly and fluidly for someone of his size and build. And when it comes to winning with every bit of strength and length of his frame Meadows looks like the real deal.

Just look at him man-handle one of the best cornerbacks in the nation in this post below:

Despite catching less than 20 receptions last year, as he played in a system that simply doesn't pass too much, Meadows was still one of the most explosive and efficient playmakers in the country averaging over 26 yards per reception! That kind of huge playmaking ability is what the LSU Tigers have become known for over the past decade as they continue to send star wide receivers to the league. Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr., and many more former LSU studs have set a high standard, but Meadows looks up to the task.

Meadows joins an already absolutely stacked 2025 LSU recruiting class, giving the Tigers their fourth five star player and second high pedigree wide receiver of the cycle. LSU already has a stacked wide receiver group, but a handful may be gone to the NFL after this season. There's a real chance Meadows comes in and immediately earns a role in 2025.
