LSU takes a recruiting win and loss on the same day

In recruiting sometimes, you win and sometimes you lose and that’s exactly what happened to the LSU football program on Saturday as they received a commitment from five-star receiver Derek Meadows from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, but four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine from New Iberia committed to Miami.

Let’s start with the good news. Meadows is six-foot-six and according to on3.com he’s ranked as the seventh best receiver in the country for the Class of 2025.

Meadows chose the Tigers over Alabama, Notre Dame and Georgia. He averaged 26 yards a catch last season for Gorman, who went 12-0 and were named national champions by MaxPreps and USA Today.

Meadows joins TaRon Francis from Edna Karr as the only two wide receivers in the Class of 2025

LSU could also use cornerbacks and a talented one from their home state has decided to play at Miami. Jaboree Antonie was committed to LSU, but decommitted earlier this summer and now plans on heading to Miami.

The loss of Antoine stings as LSU is trying to bring back DBU and letting four-star prospects leave the state makes it harder for LSU to have an elite secondary soon.

Antoine also plays in the hometown of LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond. But in this NIL world anything is possible in recruiting and Coach Brian Kelly found out the hard way on Saturday afternoon.

LSU’s 2025 recruiting class remains ranked third nationally by on3.com, but it features just one cornerback and that’s five-star prospect DJ Pickett from the Tampa, Florida area.

It’s imperative LSU makes sure that Pickett’s verbal pledge to LSU sticks and he signs with the Tigers in December.

It would be another blow if Pickett decided to play elsewhere, but for now he’s firmly committed to LSU.
