The Washington state Department of Natural Resources, Clark County and Battle Ground have all implemented burn bans because of the recent high temperatures and increased fire risks.
Recreational fires are now prohibited throughout unincorporated Clark County due to rising fire risks, a news release by the county stated on July 10.

The recreational fire restriction is in addition to the general outdoor burning ban prohibition implemented on July 5.

Due to the likelihood of continued dry and hot conditions the ban will be in place until further notice, the news release stated.

The recreational fire prohibition is intended to reduce the risk of more frequent and larger fires created by ignited dry brush and grass when a campfire escapes, Clark County Interim Fire Marshal Donna Goddard said in the release.

Further fire restrictions have also been implemented in the area and in the state.
The City of Battle Ground also implemented a total burn ban within city limits, according to a news release, Thursday, July 11.

All outdoor burning, including recreational fires, are prohibited within the city limits effective immediately. Recreational fires include campfires, fires in outdoor fireplaces or chimney-type devices, and outdoor cooking with charcoal or other solid material are not allowed during this total burn ban.

Cooking outdoors in an approved propane barbecue is permitted, currently.

Residential burning and land-clearing burning of vegetation, yard debris or branches is always prohibited within Battle Ground city limits, according to the news release.

The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice. Updated information will be posted to the city’s website at cityofbg.org/Fire-Marshal and Facebook page at facebook.com/cityofbgwa.

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources also prohibited burning in state forests, parks and lands protected by the agency on July 10. Multiple wildfires are already actively burning across the state.

The order bans outdoor burning, campfires, the use of charcoal briquettes and prescribed burns on all forest lands within DNR’s fire protection through Sept. 30. This date may be extended or shortened depending on fire conditions.

Fire dangers are high across Washington, and hot, dry conditions are worsening the risk of continued spread and ignition, according to a news release. This restriction will reduce potential wildfire ignition sources as fire dangers continue to stay elevated.

Officials urge members of the public recreating outside to stay prepared during fire season, including by being alert to rapid environmental changes, checking restrictions and conditions before heading out, ensuring tow chains are properly secured and not dragging on pavement, and staying on established trails, according to the news release.

Residents who see smoke should call 911 to report the fire. For tips on how to stay safe during fire season, go to dnr.wa.gov/WildfirePrevention.
