Mayor’s Community Awards recognizes citizen’s contributions
The City of Hopkinsville hosted its inaugural Mayor’s Community Awards reception where citizens were recognized for their positive contributions on Friday. Five awards were given out recognizing the outstanding contributions of small businesses, volunteers, educators, nonprofits and city employees. Before the winners were announced, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight shard that the evening was about more than awards, but taking a moment to thank those who go above and beyond for their community.
Eagles Shine at Thundering Herd Invite Despite Extreme Heat
Morehead State's women's cross country team finished second at the Thundering Herd Invitational despite blistering temperatures over 100 degrees. The Eagle women had three top-10 individual finishes, while the men's team placed third overall, just three points from second. Marshall dominated both races, especially the women's event, maintaining a solid lead. Conditions were so severe that 10 of the women's participants withdrew or dropped out, five from MSU. Notably, fifth-year runners Laikin Tarlton and Jacob Vogelpohl led their teams, with both finishing third in their respective races.

City passes ordinance and solidifies opportunities for homeless population
Louisville has had a difficult history with homelessness, seeing a continuous increase in homelessness rates over the last year and a lack of shelters and housing options. However, the city and its officials have begun to construct ideas and ordinances to combat the issue. On Aug. 8, Metro Council unanimously passed a new ordinance that will require businesses to accept job applications with shelters or other temporary housing facilities in an applicant’s address line. This removes one of the many hurdles the homeless population faces.
