A felon in Vacaville who was found with a firearm was given seven years in federal prison as a result of an investigation launched by Project Safe Neighborhoods, a collaboration between local and federal law enforcement, the U.S. Department of Justice said Friday.

Ramon Garcia, 32, was sentenced on Aug. 22 to seven years after being arrested during a domestic violence incident.

Police responded to a report of domestic violence involving Garcia in which he fled the scene and jumped over a barbed wire fence. He was eventually taken into custody, but in his vehicle, officers found a Glock 17 9mm handgun and an unloaded, high-capacity, 31-round Glock magazine hidden in the floorboard under interior plastic molding on the passenger side.

As a felon, Garcia is barred from possessing weapons or ammunition. He was already out on probation after receiving multiple felony convictions, including two prior domestic violence cases.

This case was a product of the Vacaville Police Department, the FBI, and the Solano County District Attorney's Office.
