Bay Shore Christian School parents, who attended a meeting Friday evening about the closing of the school, say they left with more questions than answers. As News 12 previously reported,
the school sent a letter to parents Monday notifying them the school would close on Aug. 21. Parents, like Christina Anderson of Bay Shore, left the meeting with one main question unanswered. "Where am I sending my child as of September," said Anderson. Families wanted to know from the new owners, Lifepoint Church, what could be done to save the school and what resulted in its abrupt closure. Erik Banegas, of Bay Shore, had two children enrolled in the school. "Most of what they spoke about was just like different schools in the area, things that you could Google yourself,” he said. "We're scrambling." Parents say they offered ways to save the church and the school during the meeting. "A lot of the parents gave the option of trying to pay a higher tuition, trying to raise funds for the school, raise funds for the church, but they seemed very disinterested in anything that we had to say,” said Kitty Walls, of Bay Shore. "They don't care about our children." Anderson even offered to help save the church and school. "I'm a CPA,” she said. “I offered my services for free to look at their books to help reconcile whatever issues they might have." Families, who chose the school for the Christian education, now are left scrambling to find any school that will take their child with just over a month before the new school year starts. "Parents offered resources and I feel like it just got turned down,” said Michelle Robinson, of Islip. "If it's a Christian school, work off faith. There's nothing God can't do." News 12 reached out to the church for comment after the meeting and have not yet heard back. "
