Advocate pleads for Harris to intervene in inhumane treatment
Maryland Congressional representative, Andy Harris (R- MD), chair of the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Subcommittee added a rider to the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Act that would negate the FDA's device ban authority regarding electric shock as a means of behavior modification for people with developmental disabilities. In their markup last week, the subcommittee added language that would exclude from the FDA ban from applying to "devices that are authorized or ordered for an individual by a court of competent jurisdiction.’’ There is but one facility in the entire country...
Ethics meeting July 8
There will be a “Special Ethics Meeting” at 5:30 p.m., Monday, July 8 at the Liberty Building, Orphan’s Court Meeting Room, Centreville. The Queen Anne’s County Ethics Commission administers the County’s Public Ethics Law (Chapter 8 of the Queen Anne’s County Code) by encouraging and enforcing compliance with its requirements. The Commission does so by various educational and informational outreach efforts, issuance of Advisory Opinions, consideration and resolution of Complaints, ensuring compliance with public financial disclosure requirements of various County officials and employee’s, and overseeing lobbyist registration and annual reporting requirements.

Barbershop welcomes new intern
Student barber Angelika Raum is pictured with one of her clients at Charlie & Shirley’s New OLD Barbershop (located at the corner of Love Point Road and Route 18) in historic downtown Stevensville. Raum is completing her internship as an up and coming barber, under the supervision of barbershop owner Shirley Crook, and joins the growing staff which includes Jen Thorne, who also recently earned her barber license and certification. The barbershop is open Sunday through Friday each week.

CENTREVILLE — Queen Anne’s County Planning Commission granted concept plan approval for a 31-acre expansion of an existing major mining operation in Centreville June 13. According to senior planner Steven Johnson, the applicant, David A.
