Centreville man sentenced in DE murder
DOVER, Del. — The Delaware Department of Justice secured a lengthy prison sentence for the murder of a Felton man. On June 17, Steven M. Smith of Centreville, plead guilty in Kent County Superior Court to Murder 2nd Degree and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Smith, 37, was immediately sentenced to 35 years in prison followed by descending levels of probation. The sentence follows an investigation into the 2023 murder of Charles Kupidlowski in Felton. Left, outgoing Post 18 Commander Joe Leilich, who served from 2021-2024, is presented this gift from newly installed Post Commander Tom McCauley, June 15, following the installation of the new officers. Leilich had an amazing three-years, accomplishing many needed changes, especially to the Legion building and parking lot, which had not seen renovations since the building was first erected in the 1950s.
Sudlersville community mural painting welcomes artists
SUDLERSVILLE — Welcoming artists of all ages to help showcase historic artwork, the Rural Mural Program and Sudlersville Community Mural Project kicked off at the Sudlersville Memorial Library July 3. Queenstown grad awarded STAR Scholarship
Bethany McLaughlin, a graduate of Chestertown Christian Academy and a resident of Queenstown, was recently awarded the P.E.O. STAR Scholarship for $2500. The scholarship is in recognition of her academic excellence as well as her leadership skills, extracurricular activities, and community service. Bethany is the daughter of Patrick McLaughlin, a Queen Anne’s County Commissioner, and his wife, Karsten. Bethany plans to attend Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. to study nursing. P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) is one of the largest community-based women’s organizations in the US with almost 250,000 members who are committed to helping women achieve their educational goals.
QAC approves solar credit pilot program
CENTREVILLE — Queen Anne’s County Commissioners have approved an agreement that will be used to generate solar credits to be applied to reduce county electrical energy costs. CHURCH HILL — The Maryland State Highway Administration will close the MD 405 (Price Station Road) median crossover at US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) in Queen Anne’s County beginning Monday, July 29. Historic Stevensville invites public in for festive fun
STEVENSVILLE — July 6 proved an historic day in the Historic Stevensville Arts & Entertainment District. Despite the “excessive heat warning” of 103 degrees, the Pet Parade and Festival with videotaped jokes carried on! For QAC-TV, Mike Francis and wife Bonnie videotaped people telling their favorite pet jokes. The event is held annually.
