KEARNY, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A New Jersey father who was accused of fatally shooting his daughter last year died in Hudson County jail last week, prosecutors confirmed on Tuesday.

On Feb. 15, Hudson County Correctional Police Officers were notified of an inmate who collapsed inside his cell at the Hudson County Correctional Facility, according to a spokesperson from the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

The inmate was identified as Errol Brown, 52, who was waiting for his trial related to the fatal shooting of his daughter.

Officers responded and onsite medical personnel tried to aid Brown. He  was then taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at around  3:45 p.m.

The cause of death was not immediately clear.

Prosecutors stated that the NJOAG appointed the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office to independently investigate the case due to it being an in-custody death.

The cause of death will be determined by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

“Foul play is not suspected at this time,” the spokesperson said.

Brown was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of his daughter inside an apartment at 331 Ave. E in Bayonne on June 13, 2023,  according to prosecutors.

Bayonne Police Department had received a 911 call reporting a shooting and upon arrival discovered Keyanna Brown, 28, shot in the upper chest.

Errol was charged with murder, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
