Speak Up: DSU graduating class marks highest average GPA in university history

Delaware State University’s Class of 2024 suited up in their caps and gowns to take to the stage May 10 for its undergraduate commencement in Dover. Though there was wind and drizzle, spirits were bright, especially when university president Dr. Tony Allen announced that this year’s class is not only the biggest in history but also holds the highest collective GPA.

• As a former university professor, I congratulate every one of them, not just the high achievers but also those who barely made it but persisted in achieving their goals. And I honor their proud family members, who supported them on their degree paths. — Connie Mack-Ward

• These students need to be praised, as was my granddaughter, who graduated from her college Saturday. These kids all had a crappy 2020 high school graduation. They started their first year of college during a pandemic and had more things to deal with than any other classes, from masks to classes online and 6 feet of distance from friends. — Viola Schneiderwent
