    Latin American Community Center announces scholarship winners

    WILMINGTON — The Latin American Community Center announces the award recipients of the 2024 Minerva Marrero Hispanic Scholarship Program.

    In its second year, the program was formally known as the Hispanic Student Recognition Program.

    In 2024 the Minerva Marrero Hispanic Scholarship Program will be providing a total of $25,000 worth of scholarships to seven Hispanic high school seniors split into three $5,000 scholarships, two $3,000 scholarships, and two $2,000 scholarships to support their post-secondary education.

    The following Hispanic high school seniors have been selected as this year’s award recipients:

    • Jackelyn Escobar – Sussex Central High School
    • Rocio Garduno Castandeda – Delcastle Technical High School
    • Yamileth Lopez Renoj – Sussex Central High School
    • Vivian Felipe Lucas – Indian River High School
    • Suzely Perez Gonzalez – Woodbridge High School
    • Maria Luisa Quinonez – Dover High School
    • Emily Rodriguez – Conrad Schools of Science

    The Latin American Community Center received over 50 applicants representing all Delaware counties and 11 different school districts. Winners were selected by a five-member external review committee who reviewed each applicant’s academics, community service, personal statement, and interview.

    Hispanic Student Recognition Program was a Latin American Community Center signature event for over 30 years and evolving the program to create the Minerva Marrero Hispanic Scholarship Program has enabled the agency to have a greater impact on Delaware Hispanic high school seniors.

    The Minerva Marrero Hispanic Scholarship Program is named after one of the original Hispanic Student Recognition Program founders.
