First State Educate is holding a virtual meeting on June 10 designed to unite community leaders, families and educators in a crucial conversation about the future of Delaware public schools.

“First Steps to Understanding Education: Navigating and Engaging with Delaware School Boards” will be held from 5-6 p.m.

First State Educate plans to ignite community engagement and educate people about the roles and importance of local school boards.

Participants can sign up for free at bit.ly/FSEaction .

“The kickoff event will identify key educational issues, gather community priorities, foster collaboration and ensure that local school boards are addressing the issues that matter most to the public,” said Julia Keleher, chief strategy and operating officer of First State Educate.

“Educating the public about their local school boards empowers them to hold their representatives accountable and advocate for positive change.”

The event is open to anyone interested in actively restructuring Delaware’s educational landscape. Participants will learn about a school board’s responsibilities, including strategic planning, annual budget review, policy adoption, superintendent hiring and evaluation and student achievement.

Attendees will gain knowledge of how to contact board members and navigate meeting information and district sites.

For more information, contact Julia Keleher at julia@firststateeducate.org or 202-322-7373.
