DOVER—The Kent County Levy Court sent out a message via social media Tuesday warning of several scams targeting residents of Kent County.

The county says that the caller will be posing as a Kent County Sheriff’s officer, telling the victim that they need to report to the sheriff’s office, a warrant has been issued because of missed jury duty, or that a missed court appearance has incurred a fine of $2,000.

They say the call could come from a random cell phone number, or the caller could be spoofing the Levy Court Office number, (302) 736-2161

The county says to hang up on these calls and do not attempt to call them back.

They recommend reporting these spam calls by either calling the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357), texting 1-866-653-4261, or by going online to ftc.gov/complaint.
