MILLSBORO — Earlier this year, the Millsboro Police Department moved from an outdated headquarters on Main Street to a state-of-the-art facility on Railroad Avenue.

Now, three recruits are being added.

On Tuesday, Chief Brian Calloway introduced the new members — Patrolmen Gavin Mullen and Thomas Barrett, and Patrolwoman Lucretia Bradley — during a Town Council meeting.

They graduated from the Dover Police Academy on Thursday.

Patrolwoman Bradley was on duty Wednesday, Patrolman Barrett was scheduled to start today, and Patrolman Mullen will begin upon returning from an out-of-state vacation.

The addition of these officers boosts the agency’s sworn ranks to 17.

“As you know, we’re looking for police officers,” Chief Calloway said. “We are very excited to have them. We’re really glad to have them as part of our team.”

Among the amenities at the new police station is an outdoor basketball court, the venue for an open tournament Oct. 19.

It will be a 3-on-3, half-court format, open to all ages. There will be referees and possibly refreshments available.

Then, Oct. 31 will be the department’s annual Halloween event, staged at the Millsboro Town Center in partnership with The Journey church.

“We have about 400 children that come to that,” Chief Calloway said, adding that, for safety, fire police will block off a section of Wilson Highway for the Halloween gathering.

More information on both events will be forthcoming.
