MILFORD – The Milford Museum is continuing its American History Series with a program titled “The 1800 Presidential Election: John Adams v. Thomas Jefferson” on October 12 at 1 p.m. at the Milford Public Library.

The election of 1800 was the first peaceful transfer of power between two adversarial administrations in United States history. The election involved several issues that are still relevant today including, states’ rights versus a strong central government, the national debt, national defense and religion in politics.

The decision of who would be sworn in as president in 1801 came down to James A. Baynard, Delaware’s sole member in the House of Representatives.

Lew Miller will lead the presentation. He worked in public education for 47 years, teaching United States and world history and finished his career as the director of instruction for Caesar Rodney School District.

He is a speaker at state and national education conferences. Mr. Miller was also the co-founder of Educationally Speaking LLC.

Today he helps with legal research for a law firm.

These presentations are held on the second Saturday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Milford Public Library on 11 SE Front Street. This month’s program is offered through a donation from the Milford Rotary Club.

For more information contact the Milford Museum at 302-424-1080 or tom@milfordDEmuseum.org.
