Thursday's scores: Caesar Rodney battles past Dover in girls' volleyball

CAMDEN — Caesar Rodney High shook off a first-set loss to edge Dover, 3-1, in Henlopen North girls’ volleyball on Thursday evening.

The Senators won the first set, 26-24, before CR won by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-23.

The victory snapped a three-match losing streak for the Riders, who improved to 2-1 in the North, 3-4 overall.

Dover fell to 2-1 in the North, 6-3 overall.

Reagan White (22 digs) and Thalia Brown (6 digs) had 14 kills apiece to lead CR. Katherine Orfe added 10 kills and seven digs, Jannike Campero had four aces, five digs and 29 assists with Kendall Blackwell contributing 13 assists.

Football

Howard 18, Lake Forest 14: Howard made a fourth-down stop at its own 24 in the final two minutes to hold off Lake Forest High in Class 2A football on Thursday night.

An incompletion ended the drive for the Spartans (2-3) with 1:11 remaining before the Wildcats (1-3) ran out the clock in the contest played at Abessinio Stadium.

Both teams scored touchdowns in the third quarter. A short scoring run by quaterback Jack Parson pulled Lake Forest within 18-14 with 2:34 left in the quarter.

The Spartans have now lost three games in a row by a combined nine points.
