DOVER — The Delaware state Senate announced Tuesday that it is launching a new Spanish language outreach program to serve Delaware’s Spanish-speaking constituents.

The announcement coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month, and now, senators and their respective offices will begin providing the Spanish language constituent services with a goal of “connecting Spanish speakers with their leaders in the Delaware General Assembly and the services provided by the state government,” according to a press released unveiled Tuesday.

“What makes the First State exceptional is the rich tapestry of cultures that come together to enrich our collective community. As elected officials we must not only celebrate our diversity, but find impactful ways to be inclusive. This kind of outreach will help Delawareans across our State, in red and blue districts alike, reach their senators and better access the many critical services the State offers,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Dave Sokola, D-Newark.

The Hispanic population accounted for over 71% of overall population growth in the United States from 2022 to 2023, and approximately 10% of Delaware’s population is Hispanic, according to the United States Census Bureau.

Spanish speakers in Delaware can now contact the Senate via a specific phone number and email address.

Constituents will receive assistance in their native language, or they will be directed to state agencies that provide Spanish-language services. The Senate will also make a concerted effort to share important community information in Spanish going forward.
