Garfinkel: Street-cleaning service should improve in Dover

Many thanks to Dover City Councilman Brian E. Lewis for looking into complaints throughout the city that our street-sweeping services were not being adequately carried out.

We had a demonstration Sept. 23 on Independence Boulevard in Bicentennial Village, coordinated by the councilman and including city officials. It determined that the equipment bin becomes too full and loses suction pressure, etc. Another issue was that the canisters were not being filled with water; therefore, the street sweeper driver was sweeping the streets but not utilizing water.

Hopefully, we should be seeing a huge improvement with street sweeping in days to come, after an extensive discussion with city staff, residents and the councilman. Citizens should pay attention to street signs and remember to move their vehicles when street sweepers visit their neighborhoods.

    Will Garfinkel

Thank you for addressing this ongoing problem in the city with the street sweeper. The workers need to use water as was discussed.
