MILFORD – The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford will host the Housing Resource Fair Saturday at the Greater Milford Boys and Girls Club at 101 Delaware Veterans Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It will include about 25 vendors providing information on affordable housing and workshops discussing options for housing.

The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford recently formed the CCGM Affordable Housing Task Force that helps individuals connect with organizations.

“Knowing what issues the Greater Milford area, as well as many cities and towns in Delaware and all around the country have with affordable housing, and after attending the DelTech Sussex Today & Tomorrow Conference, I went back to our board and our economic development joint task force and asked if we could redirect and become the CCGM Affordable Housing Task Force,” said Jo Schmeiser, the executive director of the chamber.

“All agreed and after meeting with the newly developed Affordable Housing Task Force, we discussed holding a resource fair to help individuals connect with the businesses and organizations that can help them to get into a home that’s affordable to them.”

Knowing the issue expands farther than Milford, she hopes to connect with people outside of the city at the event.

“This topic and issue is not just limited to Milford, so we’re hoping people from all over Delmarva attend this first-time necessary event,” said Ms. Schmeiser.

The chamber hopes the event can alleviate some of the stressors of finding affordable housing in the area by making connections with different organizations.

“We hope we’ll be able to educate folks and help them make the connections they may not know about or be aware of, to help them or someone they know find an affordable place to live,” said Ms. Schmeiser.

There is no cost to attend and parking is free. Kay’s Kitchen will be on site selling food.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be indoors.

“Everyone in need of affordable housing should leave feeling confident that they’re on their way to finding something affordable to them,” said Ms. Schmeiser.

Go to Zillow.com and type in 19963 and look for “affordable housing” in Milford. Good luck.
